This is by far the best decision I've made to buy one of these! I should have done it years ago. It is truly a night and day difference between hoods.

This technology and helmet design is great
September 29, 2017
I have done a lot of stick & MIG welding and recently set-up for TIG work projects in my shop. Had frustration with TIG tip placement and getting arc started with old flip shield helmets, getting the "feel" for that was a trying process. So I purchased an auto-darkening hat and what a difference in being able to light-up correctly positioned because you are watching the tip. I do find that my eyes are quite sensitive to the arc of TIG welding and it seems that the equivalent 13 lens shade is slightly less than optimum for me, but by wearing shaded safety glasses allows me to comfortably watch the puddle closely.
Pros
  • Great viewing area, quick lens adjustments, comfortable fit
Cons
  • Changing batteries is not a fast process, head gear adjustments are not intuitive, must read instructions

My favorite helmet
October 9, 2016
I've used several cheaper helmets and have always been let down. I had started a new job almost 2 years ago and they only used 3M helmets. I was given a brand new 9100xx and immediately fell in love. After using that day in and day out I had to purchase one for myself to use at home. I've been using this helmet for a long time now and I haven't had a single issue with it. Even the one I use at work is still kicking after being abused for 10 hours a day 5 days a week. For anyone new to this helmet, one thing to mention. The knobs on the sides do different things. One is for tension, the other is for adjusting the "lock" for holding the helmet up.
Pros
  • Great helmet, comfortable, stays on your head well, very clear vision, settings work great.
Cons
  • Wish the batteries were just a little bit easier to replace.

Best quality lens and wide view makes welding more easier.
Pros
  • Wide View and Best quality lens
Cons
  • Head gear is annoying if you have a small head :), traditional head gear would be better.
  • No control button in the front or side to switch from dark shade to grinding mode, you have to take off the helmet to switch to grinding mode.

Best Welding Helmet
January 29, 2016
I bought this helmet for my husband for his bday. He was complaining that his was shot and he needed a new one but didn't want to spend the money. (really?? When you are a welder, it is extremely important to have the proper equipment - just like any kind of work that you can get hurt doing). I researched for hours on what would be the best....And this is the helmet that I personally thought would be The Best! When he opened it - he was in shock!!! It was the exact helmet that he had picked out and wanted to buy! (He's a foreman/welder and has been in the industry for 20 yrs) He could not believe that out of all the helmets that are out there - that I bought him the exact one that he himself picked out and wanted. That confirmed to me - I did pick the best! I can not tell you how many times he has said or even text me from work saying 'This Helmet is Amazing!' or 'I love this helmet - you can see everything' or even 'Everything is bright. I thought there was something wrong but its just that the helmet is that Great!'
Pros
  • Large viewing area
  • Side lens to see to the side while looking forward
  • Very Bright
Cons
  • other than a little hard to adjust to fit head properly - None.

no solar charger
September 30, 2015
I researched many helmets before making this purchase, and I missed the fact that it doesn't have a solar charger. It probably won't be an issue for a while, based on battery life expectancy. also, the battery saver feature shuts the helmet down after not using it for a while, so you always have to turn it on before striking an arc.
Pros
  • lightweight,
  • large viewing area,
  • comfortable headgear
Cons
  • no solar charger

Best helmet I've owned
August 6, 2015
The ergonomics of this helmet are superb. The fit, once adjusted, is like not wearing a helmet at all. Taking it on and off is a snap and I don't have to snug anything up. It stays where it's supposed to be. My old Miller helmet used to pull my hair out getting it on and off, and I don't have much hair left. 8-) This helmet will allow me to keep what little hair I still have because it fits so well it doesn't yank my hair out. The friction setting to smoothly let the helmet down is very nice. The click lock in the up position is something I've always wanted. This stays up until I bring it down. In the up position, it is very balanced so I can walk around and not feel the helmet is about to fall off my head of come down on its own. The lens is brilliant. I can see what I'm welding in bright sun, in the shade or indoors. Even breathing inside the helmet is a new experience. There's good air flow to keep fumes away from inhalation. It's an expensive unit, but I'm worth it.
Pros
  • Balanced in the up position.
  • Once adjusted, it goes on and off without ANY tweaks. It's like a custom fit.
  • The lens is as good as it gets. No flashing and the electronics are easily adjusted.

It is light, very comfortable head gear, works perfectly with low amp inverter welding, and has a great lens color to view through. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the side lenses, but they are nice. I have a couple other brand helmets and this is the only one I use now.

This is my second 3M. Purchased as an upgrade to my 9000. By far the best helmet on the market. A bit heavier than some of the others, but once it is on, no worries. I've used all other brands finally bought speedglas and have stuck with them ever since. I've had 4 different models over 8 years 9002 v, 100, 9100x and 9100xx the only reason I went through that many is because I just kept wanting the next new speedglas I have loved every one of them and now especially love this hood. They are light, the pushbutton shade and sensitivity adjustment is nice the plastics seal up on the filter very well keeping the glass very clean for a long to mine still looks brand new and I've used it over a year, the headgear is by far the most comfortable out there, many different shades and sensitivities. Get this one with the side windows!!!
Pros
  • Light, good lens seal, great shade variation, very quick shade activation, the most comfortable and the side windows are very helpful.
Cons

Excellent helmet
March 25, 2015
I have had this helmet for a few weeks now. It is a major upgrade from my previous Lincoln helmet...all I can say is wow. With the big ADF and the side windows, your field of vision is fantastic. You can walk around the shop without bumping into things, and it feels like you don't even have the helmet on. The headgear is very adjustable and comfortable. On the other hand, the optional head and neck cover that I purchased with it is a joke..don't spend the money on it.

speedglas 9100xx
March 1, 2015
Ive had alot of autodarks, jaksons, millers and the speedglas blows them away. The optics are so clear while welding. Not like miller elite or jackson nexgen. Their optics are blotchy and not consistent. Spend a little more if you weld for a living. Your eyes will thank you.
Pros
  • Clarity in the loght state and while welding. The vent keeps helmet from getting stuffy. And the head gear puts the helmet on top of your head when up not hanging out in front of your face. Tack mode is nice.
Cons
  • Headgear sometimes snags your hair.

Only had it a month or so... so I'm hoping the extra $$ will pay off in the end. Tried other brands that worked great but didn't last.
Pros
  • Huge viewing area.
  • Most comfortable headband I've used.
  • Simple controls.
  • Head gear is adjustable 7 ways from Sunday. Reducied neck strain alot (once I read instructions).
Cons
  • Pricey.
  • A bit heavy, if you don't adjust the headgear properly.

Best welding helmet, so worth the $
February 25, 2015
I've been welding for 12 years as a self employed specialty fabricator. I weld everyday sometimes up to 12 hours a day. My Miller hood finally died and after reading the reviews on this I spent the bucks and got it. It certainly is a lot of money but was well worth it. I've been using it for 3 months now and would highly recommend it to any welder that welds a lot. Pros Cons
Pros
  • It is super comfortable. I can see everything with the larger window especially when its in light mode and I find I lift the hood less. The best part is that there is a tension knob that specifically holds the hood up and one knob to tension the lowering of the hood. No more of the hood slipping down on you. It did take some time to get the head gear adjusted right and a couple days to get use to the better ergonomic head gear. Now I don't even notice its on my head sometimes. I never get flashed anymore. I use to get flashed all the time weld this one part that I regularly make. Now I never get flashed with the 3M. With all the use I still have not gone through a battery in 3 months now.
Cons
  • The only thing that I can say bad is that you can't turn on the grind mode without taking the helmet off. In my opinion a major flaw and I don't end up using that function due to inconvenience. I also like to wear a bandana on my head when I weld. Unfortunately the ergonomic head gear falls much lower on the back of my head. The same spot I tie the knot for the bandana which causes the knot to press into my head. So I've had to switch to a scull cap.

Professional welding helmet
February 8, 2015
This is a great welding helmet, what I love about it is the top balance of the helmet, the helmet is light weight and what weight there is sits on the top of your head which causes less neck strain, when you are wearing the helmet for extrended periods of time this is a great feature. With the two bands that go across the top of your head and the lower adjustment that sits low on your neck the helmet stays better on my head when I am welding out of possition and moving around, it does not come off also it is comfortable. One important thing is to spend some time too get the bands across the top adjusted correctly, make sure you can not stick your finger in between eather band. Another feature about this helmet is the adjustment knobs on the side, one is for the drag coming down, the other is for the positioning of the helmet on the top of your head, it has a latch or notch which will keep in the upper possition and you adjust how strong or no notch at all. I like that. Lenses is great I see much better with this helmet, I had a Next gen helmet. Another feature that I like is the preferal vision, the helmet is designed where the front face peace sticks out alittle where you receive very little arc while you are welding, and if you do not like what little arc you get, you can place some blinders on, that comes with the helmet. Another unique quality of this helmet is the front face piece, as I mentioned the is a small gap where air can flow and the stand off keeps a little cooler, and the breathing helps from fogging, I did have a slight problem with this using the Miller magi-faction lense, I took the lense out, for a minute then placed it back in, with no other problem so far. I also bought the top cover and the chin guard which I love, this could account for the fogging, The head and chin guard are a fabric type of material, advantage is it is light weight, disadvantage is under large globs of hot metal it will fail, recommend lether. I have not had any problem so far, I try to keep my head from large splatter. Changing front lense is easy two tabs in lower back, bottom of lense, squeeze and pull out, then replace with new one. I am enjoying my new helmet, it is built well. If you decide on getting one, take time to set up all of the adjustment before you weld, you will be happier with this product.
Pros
  • Well balenced on my head, side vision, light weight, gap in front face shield which keeps inside of helmet cooler, with breath extraction to sides. Two head bands and lower neck adjustment. Great optics, slide in magnification holder, easy replacement front lense, head and chin guards, two side adjustments.
Cons
  • No colorful helments, if you buy head cover, glue the clips to plastic loops that attaches to cloth before you install it, they break easily, be careful with alignment before you place clips on, they do not remove easly, which is good, they will not come off.

Outstanding
December 19, 2014
I researched helmets quite thoroughly.....ended up getting the new Optrel E684 which was supposed to be top of the line. I was unimpressed with the overall feel of the helmet and small viewing area. Just didn't feel like a professional piece of equipment to me. I decided to go with the 9100XX and I am really happy with that decision. The viewing area with side windows is like looking out of a cockpit, you can see everything while you are fitting things up, etc. The clarity is outstanding and it isn't overwhelmingly green like i was afraid of. The fit/finish of the helmet, headgear, materials, etc. scream quality and now I know why there are so many positive reviews. If you're on the fence about buying a 9100xx versus a 9100x or V, spend the extra $$$...you won't be sorry!
Pros
  • Large Viewing Area
  • Clarity
  • Side Windows
  • Highly Adjustable
  • Durable Materials
Cons
  • Takes a lot of adjusting, but once you get it dialed in, it's like a custom helmet.

I own/run a performance shop and do all of the fab work/welding as well. I've been using a Miller Digital Elite series helmet for almost 3 years with no issues but after hearing about the Speedglas helmet I wanted to see what all the noise was about. The first time I used it I could see why everyone liked it. The super clear lens and just how comfortable it is makes it worth every penny.

everything as described. I was surprised at the anti-fogging abilities. Awesome product at an awesome price. Shipping was fairly quick. If you are on the fence on upgrading from an older hood with less capabilities, I would suggest that you spend the extra cash for a superior product. The larger viewing window makes a big difference. Also came with extras like a beanie cap and clear covers. I highly recommend.
Pros
  • large viewing window, super light-weight, air flow keeps fogging to a minimum, and comes with extras
Cons
