great machine, uses little air, with a nice heavy duty case
July 14, 2018
This is my first plasma cutter and also my first time using one. Taking notes from my friends, reviews and YouTube videos I figured out what I wanted from a machine. I wanted a dual input voltage machine that I can use 230v in my garage but also would be able to use 115v if needed. I wanted a machine with a pilot arc (some cheaper machines don't have that) and I wanted a machine that had drag cut capabilities. Once I narrowed it down to that I found this machine which uses far less air than comparable machines and also comes with a pelican-style carrying case. This one seemed like a great all around machine at a great price. My cheap 20gal compressor has no problem keeping up with the 3.2cfm demand. The quality of the machine is very good. It works flawlessly, absolutely easy to use I'm very happy with its capabilities. The free shaded safety glasses, gloves and consumables are a nice touch. I won't need to buy consumables for a long time at my usage rate. The only negative is the trigger on the torch feels cheap and sometimes I pull the trigger and nothing happens and I think it broke. If I adjust my grip the trigger works, it just feels cheap and has a small sweet spot where it works and a large area where nothing happens.
Pros
  • -Cutting capability
  • -Convenient heavy duty carry case (I trimmed the foam for easier repacking, works great)
  • -230v or 115v input
  • -pilot arc and drag cutting
  • -Low air demand
  • -everything you need is included
  • -Consumable parts/spares provided
  • -gloves and glasses provided
Cons
  • Torch trigger is pretty lame

Thermal dynamics cut master 42
June 29, 2018
Thermal dynamics cut master 42 reviews were good I thought this would be a quality purchase. Came in a nice case looked good removed from packaging noticed the torch seemed very cheap. After setting up a water separator filter fittings and airline adjusting proper air pressure it was ready to go. The first cut lasted about 18 inches before burning out consumables note did not contact Steele surface. Removed consumables noticed torch is extremely cheap very poor product. Set at max amps the cut master did have a good punch while working it sliced through steel very well. After using all consumables contained with machine I became slightly frustrated at the beginning of a project. Wow did I ever make a mistake purchasing thermal dynamics cut master 42 . For now my purchase belongs in the supplied container waiting for additional consumables wow did I ever make a big mistake this machine is unreliable.
Pros
  • Had a good punch cut well.
Cons
  • Torch is very cheap. Ground cable does not remove from machine. Consumables are very expensive and do not last at all even with proper water separator filter assembly installed.

Great plasma cutter.
November 15, 2017
This unit is very nice and cuts perfectly. The consumables do appear to wear a little quickly but not really bad. You have to make sure that if you are not using a drag tip that you do not touch the tip to any conductive surface. On 220v this thing cuts 1/4 steel like a knife under half power setting. It cuts 1/2 just as sharply but that is all I have tried to do at this point. I own a bumper fabrication shop (G3 Fab Works) and have used many types of plasma cutters and am very happy with this purchase. @ 970.00 plus a 100.00 rebate it's a no brainer...
Pros
  • 1) Dross flakes off easily
  • 2) it will cut as straight and sharp as its user is capable of.
  • 3) dual voltage supply
  • 4) comes with everything you need and extra consumables.
  • 5) best price point anywhere.
Cons
  • 1) Consumable cost
  • 2) consumables seem to wear kind of quick.

Solid 40 amp machine
October 23, 2017
I have been using this machine for about three weeks cutting mostly 1/4" A36 steel an have been impressed with the results I have been getting. It has worked really well doing 40" long cuts using a powered carriage at a pretty reasonable speed and set to around 30 amps. Cut quality is very good. I have not had a chance to run the machine on 120v but can see where this will be a handy feature for doing field work. The consumable life has been good so far in that I have not needed to replace them yet. The case and other accessories are a nice touch.
Pros
  • Small
  • Nice carrying case
  • Multi voltage
  • Compact comfortable torch
  • Good cut quality
  • Easy to set up and use
  • Low air consumption
Cons
  • Torch feels a little cheap

Decent machine
March 17, 2017
This machine is perfect for hobbiests. It seems to cut very clean on the lighter gauge materials. I haven't had the chance to test up to 1/2 inch yet. I've read other reviews complaining about the electrode consumables not lasting very long. I can kind of notice the issues with mine. But many things factor in, like blow back or not holding the tip vertical during the cut. Also make sure you have the right tip on for drag or off the material cutting. One more thing is dry air is need for optimal cuts and long lasting consumables.
Pros
  • Not bad for the price.
Cons
  • This plasma uses constant air to run. Whether you are cutting or not, it's constantly drawing air. Hard to keep up when you have a low psi compressor. Mine runs 120 max and the plasma needs 90 psi minimum.

Victor plasma cut 42
September 8, 2016
I have been using plasma cutters for 20 years. There are good and bad. This one works very smooth and cuts as well as many high dollar units I have used. I have not tried the unit on 120v yet. With 240v set up it works just fine. As with any plasma cutter always use an air dryer, your consumables will love you for it.
Pros
  • Cuts as good as many more expensive models.
Cons
  • Not sure of how it works on 120v. Need to set it up and see how it performs.

i was debating between this unit and the next one in price figured this one would do most of that i wanted. received it next day
Pros
  • worked tested it on 120v worked fine. unit feels good in hand for detailed work. works well with a pancake compressor and dryer
Cons
  • need to put in a different 220 v plug but that's normal... the adapters didn't fit a dryer plug i had. would order extra tips and standoff .

Cutmaster 42 is excellent. Cyberweld is excellent.
August 12, 2016
I'm very happy with Cyberweld and my new Cutmaster 42. Shipping was prompt, I had the unit 3 days after ordering. Cyberweld customer service was helpful when I called for info. The Cutmaster 42 is just what I need. This unit easily cuts through several pieces of 5/16" steel at a 240V input. Cutting 24 Gauge steel is Fast. Max current draw is less than 20 amps at 240V and the air volume is less than 4 CFM. Works perfect in a home shop. I recommend it.
Pros
  • Easily cuts 5/16" steel at 240V input
  • Less than 4 CFM airflow works with many compressors
  • Consumable are low cost and easily available.
  • 4 year warranty on the main unit is very nice.
  • Great for a home work shop

The torch is small, the machine is small, the air consumption is minimal. This machine is GREAT and underrated, easily slices through a 3/4 section of weld. I even turned it all the way down and cut through 1/4" nice and slow. AWESOME machine, crisp arc and great price, you wont regret it. THANK YOU cyberweld

Great cutter for beginners
May 9, 2016
This is my first plasma cutter. I am a beginning auto restorer and this cutter is great for me! It has performed flawlessly for the past 2 weeks and cuts through fenders and quarter panels like butter with only 110V. The air pressure is automatically regulated by the cutter so there is no adjustment for pressure.
Pros
  • Dual voltage, auto pressure regulating, easy setup.
Cons
  • Take photos as you're unpacking if you want to get it back in the carry case.

TD Cutmaster 42
March 6, 2016
I was very doubtful of buying a Chinese product but the Cyberweld tech was adamant that this was the best unit of the 2 I was interested in and although I have not used it much yet, in testing it has pertformed perfectly on 110V and 220V. The tips need to have easier to read markings on them, solved by putting tips in marked plastic bags.
Pros
  • Cuts more than specs say and very compact.

New Cutmaster 42. Wow
February 27, 2016
Just got the Cutmaster 42 today, started cutting right out of the box like a champ. Did some 1/4" flat stock, easy-peasy. Then did a sign free hand in some light gauge steel for my wife, bam, happy wife. Finally tried a rusty piece of 3/4" steel, about 4 inches long, no problem. Wasn't even maxed out. Literature said 5/8" max, but I think that's way underrated. Have machine on dedicated 30 amp 220 circuit. Haven't tried 110 yet, but expect nice results. I already had a Thermal Arc Fabricator 211i, and the machine has been nothing short of amazing. Reliable as the sunrise and all the machine I've needed. Build quality seems on the Cutmaster looks and feels just as good, so I expect just as much reliability.

Pros
  • Price, quality, light weight.
Cons
  • Consumables look like they will get chewed up...could be operator error though.

A true cutmaster at an affordable price!
January 3, 2016
Thermal dynamics really hit the mark with this product! As a professional welder/ fabricator I expect quality and performance from my tools and the Cutmaster 42 delivers both at a great price! The machine will cut a full 1/4" in steel on a 120 volt 15 amp standard circuit and a full 3/8" on 220 volt circuit. Air consumption is minimal making this machine a great choice for portable fab work. The machine seems well made and comes with a really good quality case and really nice quality adapter cables for the different input voltages. This machine was bought to work in conjunction with a TWECO 211i 3 in one welder, What an awesome combination these two machines make! Bravo to ESAB/TWECO/ Thermal dynamics! Cyberweld did a great job on delivering as well, machine was ordered on a Tuesday and arrived the next Saturday afternoon ( several days earlier than expected).
Pros
  • Quality machine at a great price!
  • Great warranty and brand support from Victor thermal dynamics
  • Meets all claimed expectations
  • Great service from Cyberweld
Cons
  • Ground cable is a very stiff cable and does not have a twist lock to remove from machine, the ground clamp is a good quality however and should last a long time.

This compact machine has great power and a well built carry case. One down fall is that you need a bushing to use the circle and straight cutting guides .another down gallos the cutting torch felt kind of cheap but I feel it will last for many years.
Pros
  • Carry case
  • Light
  • Powerful
Cons
  • The need for a bushing to use accessories
  • Plasma tourch feels cheap

Great out of the box experience. I have used a Thermal Dynamics 65 and this one is almost as good for 1/4 the price. Did everything I needed. I just need to practice holding the torch at the proper angle.
Pros
  • Everything was included except the air filter. I purchased this separately. Great portable unit, very light and will cut thick steel if needed. I've only ran it on 220V for now, will try the 110V operation in the future.

I am moving so I have not tried my Cutmaster 42 out yet. I trust the name based on other reviews, so I hope it does the job for me. I will say this; If Thermal Dynamics were up front about the Cutmaster 42 being now made in China, then I would have probably went with another product. Nevertheless, the 4 year warranty demonstrates their faith in the product, so I will use it.
Pros
  • Have not used machine yet, so the only pro I can name is that machine looks solid and professionally built.
Cons
  • No cons yet, since I have not used machine yet, but if any develops the T.D. will certainly hear from me, since Made in China on bottom of machine did not show itself until I had made purchase.

Fabulous machine for the price
April 2, 2014
I am a steel sculptor and had a Miller Spectrum 625 which I had to sell because I injured my back and could no longer do that kind of work. After a couple of back surgeries I have started scupting again, and in looking for another plasma cutter price was an issue this time around. I looked at the newer Miller Spectrum 625 X-Treme and the Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 42 and decided to roll the dice for 500 bucks less and bought the Cutmaster 42, and boy am I glad that I did!. This thing cuts as good, if not better than the Spectrum 625 I had and is a fraction of the size. I split a 6 foot long 1/2 inch steel I beam in half lenghtwise the other day and it was as easy as slicing a loaf of bread. This is a great machine!
Pros
  • Great power for small size and the price. Standoff guide makes cutting circles and oddball shapes a lot easier.

I LIKE IT!
August 23, 2013
Graduated from a 2000 model miller. Like the convenience of the plug receptacles, sure will help if portability is needed. The 1st thing I used mine for, was cutting sheet metal for a new shop siding and roof panels when needed, man, much quicker and cleaner than using a saw!! I ran in on 15 amp connected to my miller Bobcat 250 welder, along with a small air compressor and it worked in the remote location beautifully. Only reason I gave it 4 stars, the torch feels much less sturdy, well actually "cheap". I hope the torch head (trigger) holds up..
Pros
  • Portable, but great for stationary
  • Tip longevity
  • 3 power cord options.
  • Extras (gloves, sunglasses) where a nice touch
  • Nice ground clamp nd cut great out of the box.
Cons
  • Torch feels "cheap"

Cutmaster 42 Review
April 24, 2013
So it arrived Friday afternoon one day ahead of the tracking, driver called me at work so I had him stash it in my carport until i could get home. Well packaged and at least visibly non-damaged container, free shipping from Cyber-Weld. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/01Box_zps5b40ec46.jpg Interior packaging was good also. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/02Packaging_zps6a274704.jpg Comes with a pretty sturdy carrying case. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/03Box_zpsdb5f1bf3.jpg Once out of the box the machine is light enough to move easily enough with one hand. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/04Lightweight_zpsdcc43cb3.jpg First thing I did was setup a dedicated dryer as I don't like robbing stuff from my paint gun setup. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/05dryer_zpse5673309.jpg Had to make the dryer detachable so it will fit back in the carrying case. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/06detachable_zpsab513979.jpg First test out of the box was 3/16" at 20 amps, nice clean cut. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/07threesixteens20amps_zpsde1b4bb8.jpg 1/4" at 20 amps cuts with very noticeable dross. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/08quaterinch20amps_zps9102dce3.jpg 1/4" at 27 amps cuts cleanly and pierces nicely. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/09quarterinch27amps_zpsffad5a95.jpg 3/8" at 27 amps severs cleanly but as you can see the dross is back, not that hard to clean up but if you were doing any significant amount of 3/8" you need to get it onto a 220V circuit so you can bump past the 110V 27 amp limit. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Tools/10threeeights27amps_zps0774bfec.jpg Some notes: The first two test were done on a 20 amp 110V circuit with the 15 amp adapter plug which limits you to 20 amps output, the remaining tests were done on the same circuit with the 20 amp adapter plug which bumps you to 27 amps output. Pros- 1. I really like the weight, we have an older DV Hypertherm at work, it's probably twice the weight of this. 2. The carrying case is very sturdy and since the majority of this unit is plastic that will be an asset. 3. It does what they claim it will do. Cons- 1. The only visible difference between the drag and stand-off tips is the orifice size, stand-off being larger. 2. The etching for the consumable part numbers is so light you need a magnifying glass to read it. 3. Ground clamp is junk, as are most these days (I have several spares).

The only reason I'm not giving this machine five stars is, the torch was defective right out of the box. Thermal Dynamics tech support was great. Had to light a fire under Cyberweld Support though. They didn't feel that it was that big of a rush to get another torch, I suppose! After several calls, and asking for a supervisor, they got up to speed. New torch came 2nd day air straight from T.D. , plugged it in, the machine works awesome!!! cuts 1/4 like butter!
Pros
  • Powerful, lightweight, small torch, awesome cut
Cons
  • Bad torch out of the box.
