After a year and a half.....
January 18, 2018
Has worked out great. I use it for chromoly tubing (race car stuff) and aluminum... fabrication, repairs, additions, etc.. I have found it to be much easier to do than MIG, and with better results mainly because I don't have to concern myself with the wire feed speed of the MIG which I was never good at getting right, lol. With the TIG I am able to control all that with your eyes and hands and for me it just seems to have worked out better. I also think it's more convenient when jumping back and forth between steel and aluminum.... you grab the appropriate rod, adjust the heat, change electrode in the torch if needed (takes 5 seconds) and go.... This unit is very reasonably priced and turned out to be well worth the investment. It paid for itself in no time. Unless you're doing high volume or exotic metals this machine will do. Oh, and you'll need an argon bottle to get started also. Apologize for the long winded review, but this turned out to be one of only a handful of purchases I can honestly say that is totally worthwhile. One more important piece of advice... don't cheap-out on a welding helmet.... Get an auto-darkening one... Cyberweld has em for the best price.... besides allowing a better bead.... Good visibility when you start your weld (especially if you are a beginner) will save you from sticking the electrode and having to stop and grind over and over. Trust me on this one - I learned the hard way.
Pros
  • It's ridiculously simple to use - that's the real beauty of it.
  • It makes perfect welds
  • It's also light and compact
Cons
  • If you're working out of your house, you will have to wire up a receptacle for the 220/30A.
  • The 220v requirements discourages a lot of folks from purchasing this machine and end up going for the hobart 110 mig bec it's less of a hassle to use.. You don't need to do this!
  • I tapped into the clothes dryer circuit and added a transfer switch for safety.
  • I also made a 30' extension cord which has come in very handy for when a friend comes by with a race car that needs a bracket or a tab welded.... I don't have to move my stuff around to get their car inside to work on it. Got everything needed for that at Lowes

Did a bunch of homework, and finally decided on the Hobart knowing it was backed by Miller and trying to find a used one was fruitless. First one showed up in three days-Awesome!, Got it all set up, flipped the helmet down and stepped on the pedal----and BANG, out went the lights-literally--blew every breaker in the garage. Hmm, so reset all the breakers, checked the plugs, and hit the power again--nothing- totally dead. So, called back to Cyberweld the next day and after a few hours a new one was on the way directly from Miller. Plugged it in, turned my head, closed my eyes and stepped on the pedal--all was good. Proceeded to use it on stainless and aluminum tubing for 4 days straight without even a hiccup. Made me look way better than i should be-great machine for its intended materials and amp range. Great warranty and great customer service. Cyberweld is in my bookmarks from now on.
Pros
  • Perfect size, easy to use. Versatile in its range. Great price.
Cons
  • Factory Quality Control should have caught the first one.

Great product fast shipping
March 10, 2016
Quick shipping and easy to order from website. I ordered a Hobart because I own a Hobart 180 Mig. I bought the mig ten years ago and I've never had any problems with it. I don't know how to tigweld but I was able to lay some sloppy beads on some aluminum pipe. Not a hiccup, burp or fart outta this baby! I'm confident that this one will last just as long as my mig has. It's so nice to be able to weld aluminum now! I'm super happy I finally got me a tig!!!
Pros
  • Easy setup
  • Good quality
  • Reliable
  • And very capable
Cons
  • None!

Well made TIG welder
February 29, 2016
The Hobart EZ-TIG 165 is truly simple to set up and use. The DC arc is exceptionally smooth compared with other TIG machines I've owned. I welded some 18 gauge stainless steel with the Hobart in testing the unit on DC and was quite impressed. The AC arc is also quite good, for I did a lap-weld on some 20 gauge scrap aluminum without much difficulty, and on 16 gauge aluminum and thicker it really welds nice. The EZ-TIG 165 should serve my needs since I'll mainly use it for repair work and small fabrications in which its relatively low duty-cycle should not be a handicap. Cyberweld's price on the machine was great, as was their service as usual.
Pros
  • The Hobart is made by Miller and the quality is top-notch. The included Weldcraft TIG torch is excellent, as is the Argon gas regulator. The remote amperage pedal works well.
Cons
  • None at this point.

Hobart EZ Tig 165i
December 3, 2015
I am self taught at welding for over 48 year's and have run a million miles of wire but never used a tig until now. The Hobart EZ Tig 165i made it so EZ for me by taking out the guess work of setting it up to use it. You still need to understand what you are doing and control your puddle but with about 15 minutes of familiarization I was of and running. This is a great little machine for a beginner at Tig welding. I'm glad I chose this one and remember to always drive Lincolns drink Millers but weld with Hobart you'll be happy you did.

Great welder
May 15, 2015
I've owned the ez tig for about a month now, and I'd have to say it's a good machine. It welds steel and aluminum vey well. The AC setting has good cleaning action but still puts out a lot of penetration. The DC setting is nice and smooth and can weld some pretty thick material (with multiple passes). All in all, I'm very pleased with this welder. I thought it would be underpowered and I would have wished I had just saved up and bought a bigger machine, but it seems to be just right for me. Also, cyberweld got this machine to me in THREE days...for free!
Pros
  • Easy operation. Comes ready to weld.

Great working welder, poor customer service from cyber weld
March 12, 2015
This welder is awesome. Its identical to the miller 165. Inside all the parts are miller labeled. I've never tig welded before but the setup was easy and i'm slowly learning. The problem I had is with cyber weld, not the welder at all. I still gave this a 5 start because it's a great welder even if cyberweld dropped the ball. When I ordered the page said it shipped within 48 hrs. It took about two weeks to get the welder. The welders are backordered but cyber weld wont tell you that. After waiting a few days for a tracking number and getting nothing I called them. I was informed it hadn't shipped because my shipping address was different. No biggie I told them it was actually me ordering it and to ship it. The lady never replied to my email so I called. The lady that answered the phone was rude and not helpful.. I talked to the lady that emailed me and she was also rude and told me that the problem wasn't that my address was different it was that they were on backorder. Ok, cool. 8 Days later I still have no tracking info so I email them asking if they know when it will ship. No response, nothing. Tried one more time, nothing. By this time i'm frustrated because i'm being ignored. The welder finally showed up 4-5 days after my last email. I never did get a response and will probably not order from them again because of it.
Pros
  • Great welder
Cons
  • Bad customer service, I doubt i'll order again from them.

Perfect first TIG welder
January 15, 2015
I am not a professional welder so researched a lot of sites prior to this purchase looking at opinions and recommendations. Since my need ius to weld thin metal for auto restorations this welder hit the mark on price and capability. I have an older Miller TIG but wasn't satisfied that I or the welder were a good fit for the 22 to 18 gauge metal I needed to seam up. This EZ TIG quickly proved itself as I pulled it out of the box, set it up, sharpened the tungsten and promptly managed to butt weld my 22 gauge test pieces without a single burn-through. While I definitely need to practice much more to do presentable work and tune my technique, I am now sure I have the right tool and technology to enable me to achieve my objective. I am now the variable in this process that needs improvement, not my tool. Thanks to Cyberweld for the quick free delivery, and offering this terrific product at such an attractive price.
Pros
  • Price, easy to use, accessible consumables, Miller heritage, warranty
Cons
  • Are you kidding, did you see my pros?

Fantastic Machine
April 13, 2014
Granted I've only done a few test welds to make sure the machine works, but I'm certain of one thing, this machine is incredible. I've had the pleasure of using a water-cooled ESAB and a water-cooled Syncrowave and while those machines are superb to this technically, this machine is still fantastic and can weld just as nicely as those two if you have some skill. Sure it may not be able to weld for hours on end or be able to penetrate a thick piece of metal, but it suits my needs and is capable of creating great welds. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to do fabrication work for cars or similar. Get yourself a bottle of argon, plug it in, and weld away! The only thing I would like to point out to potential buyers is that this machine needs a 230 volt outlet. Unfortunately for me my garage wasn't equipped with such an outlet so I had to have one installed. Just a warning to those who may not have such an outlet on hand that you may need to have an outlet installed and possibly a 50 amp breaker as well so check before buying this.
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Quiet
  • Cost-effective

After much research, I decided to purchase the Hobart 165i. To say the least, I am very happy with it. It does everything I need it to and then some. I am fairly new a tig welding and find this machine extremely easy to operate.

Nice machine
March 29, 2013
I had this thing running practically right out of the box. Well, OK, I had to go get an argon tank and some filler rods, lol. But, once hooked up, I was running beads all over scrap pieces of everything: aluminum, stainless, mild steel. Pretty decent beads, too, even though my TIG experience totaled about two hours prior to getting this welder. Can't vouch for the weld integrities, but the point is, Hobart has come up with a very nice machine that requires virtually no hassle to commence practicing. As a non-pro welder, I appreciate the fact that some of the machine set-up variables have been eliminated and I can concentrate on the act of laying a bead.

"I repaired an aluminum truck rack with my EZ-TIG last week. It did the job as well as any other 'TIG' machine that I have used. I did not have to waste filler or base material to set the machine, I just set the thickness on the dial and went to work. EASY.
Pros
  • Ideal machine for someone new to 'TIG' welding.
  • It's lightweight and easy on the electric bill too.
  • Bargain priced.
Cons
  • N/A

First TIG Torch
September 24, 2012
Excellent price, neat packaging, fast and free shipping. This is my first time using a TIG torch. Setup was fast and easy Started welding a small project out of 1/8 to 3/16 stainless after about one day of practice. Was a little worried about the duty cycle, but it is more than adequate for a new user. Havent tried welding aluminum or steel yet. Having some issues with shielding gas coverage, so I switched from a collet to a gas lens setup on the torch which seems to really help.
Pros
  • Easy to set up and use.
  • Good instruction manual.
  • Lots of optional parts for the TIG torch.
Cons
  • Thought the power cord would be longer; but not a big issue.

Great addition to the shop
September 10, 2012
This machine looks very promising. Once I figure out how to TIG weld decently, I'll really be enjoying it. The unit itself couldn't be simpler: it's basically on/off, power setting, and material setting. The TIG process has a steep learning curve, but this is true of any machine.
Pros
  • Easy to set up and use. It's bigger than a MIG unit, but much lighter and easier to handle.
Cons
  • Nothing so far. It's frustrating to learn how to TIG weld compared to MIG or even gas, but the machine itself is great.
  • There are a lot of cords and hoses. Build a cart with hooks.

Does a good job for light to medimum thickness carbon and stainless steel. I have not used it on aluminum yet. Foot peddal can be a little "touchey" but overall I think it's a good machine for a small shop or a mantienance shop.
Pros
  • Great value for the price.
Cons
  • Cooling fan is a bit noisey, sounds like a jet getting ready for take off.

Fast and easy, right out of the box
July 9, 2012
Just finished my first project with this welder (16 ga stainless) and I have to say that I'm very happy with my purchase. Welds as good as a Syncrowave at a fraction of the price. Everything was ready to go, as received. The torch, ground and power cord are pre-attached and the torch was even pre-assembled. All you have to do is attach your gas, sharpen your tungsten, plug in the foot pedal and start welding. Couldn't be easier. And for over a hundred bucks less than the identical Miller unit (Diversion 165), this Hobart is a no-brainer. Thanks, Hobart and thanks, Cyberweld!
Pros
  • Easy to set up
  • Easy to operate
  • Good welding range
  • Good quality welds
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Didn't come with a free sammich

Happy w/ price, product & service
May 24, 2012
Where do I start? Best price on the internet? Free shipping? Courteous, helpful customer service? Excellent brand new flawless product? I have received all the above. I did encounter a snag with shipping as I was in the process of moving and my change of billing address on my credit card had not been updated. I promptly received an email from cyberweld saying my order was placed on hold do to the conflicting information for security reasons and was asked to contact customer service. Customer service was a pleasure to deal with, unlike my credit card holder. Once that was straightened out things went smoothly until I realized I wouldn't be home to sign for the package and had to contact cyberweld for a change of address to my place of business. FYI FedEx charges $15 for in-route address change...(there goes my free shipping, but obviously my fault). After all of this, I still received my welder in 4 business days, pretty good for living in Michigan's UP. Upon arrival, my package was in excellent condition. All contents were in brand new, pristine condition. I have not used the welder extensively yet, as I am still putting my garage together from the move, but I did run a practice bead on some .120 wall DOM tubuing and WOW was all I had to say. It works as well as our Lincoln 375 TIG only without as high of range, obviously. All I have to say is, if you are thinking about it, just buy it, you wont regret it. :)

EZ-TIG 165
May 9, 2012
Easy to put together and use. Works really good.I've been using a Miller 250 syncrowave for years at work and while it doesn't have the same power on the top end or duty cycle like the Miller it works just as well. I tried a lift arc that was a few bucks less but it was a pain in the butt to use.The Hobart lights up easy and has great control.
Pros
  • works great

Small unit for small jobs
March 8, 2012
I haven't used my welder extensively yet. I have done some small steel jobs and one small aluminum repair. Everything worked as expected. I did like the inverter for the aluminum repair. It kept the arc focused to add a small amount of filler on the end of a small pin. I think using a cat5 cable to the foot control is a plus, much more cost effective to replace if damaged.
Pros
  • Price, versatile, light weight,
Cons
  • Duty cycle being very low over 90 amps.
